The Lookout at Whale Cove is a beautifully appointed 3-bedroomed self-catering apartment situated directly on the seafront, with magnificent sea views across Walker Bay and of the Overberg mountains.
The spacious living area includes an open plan kitchen, dining room, comfortable lounge and separate TV nook.
The modern kitchen is fully-stocked with everything either the casual, or gourmet, cook will require.
The three bedrooms are well-appointed and the lounge, and main bedroom, lead onto the balcony with spectacular ocean views across Walker Bay. In whale season you can watch the whales while lying on your bed!
The large balcony has a gas barbecue, outside dining and loungers. The closest beach is 100 metres away, just below the apartment where you can fish off the rocks, catch mussels and crayfish in season, snorkel, or just laze and watch the seals.
A very scenic cliff path passes in front of the apartment to Klipgat Cave in one direction and Gansbaai in the other.
Local Activities:
Whale watching | In season an abundance of whales can be enjoyed from the apartment’s balcony. Alternatively there are beautiful places just outside the apartment where they can be viewed at extremely close range.
In addition there are boat trips to Dyer Island where you can view whales in season, sharks, penguins, seals and other marine life.
Beaches | There are at least seven beautiful white-sand, swimming beaches either within walking distance of the apartment, or a short drive away, ranging from the 18 km long pristine white sand beach of De Plaat (1 km from the apartment) to Standford's Cove (2km away), and Pearly Beach and Franskaal, which are slightly further afield but easily accessible.
Shark cage diving and marine life boating | Gansbaai, situated 3kms from De Kelders, is known as the Great White shark capital of the world. There are many reputable shark cage operators in Gansbaai.
Walking trails | The 7km Klipgat trail runs along the coast between Gansbaai and De Kelders, passing on the cliffs directly in front of the apartment. In addition there are several hiking trails along the coast and in the nearby mountains to suit all abilities.
Fishing | The De Kelders coastline provides excellent land-based and sea fishing. There are fishing harbours in Gansbaai and Kleinbaai that are ideal for boat launches. Fish include kabeljou, steenbras and the highly-prized galjoen.
Wine routes | There are at least 20 popular wine routes in and around the De Kelders area ranging from 10 minutes to 2 hours away. All are in very scenic areas.
Nature reserves and bird watching | The beautiful privately-owned Grootbos Nature Reserve, internationally acclaimed for its fynbos conservation, is 1km from De Kelders, as is the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, and the De Plaat Nature Reserve with its magnificent stretch of white beach. There is abundant marine bird life in the reserves.
Shopping | Gansbaai will satisfy most of your immediate shopping requirements.
Restaurants | From cheap and cheerful to some of the Cape’s top eateries are within the area.
Fishing | The De Kelders coastline provides excellent land-based and sea fishing.
Archaeology | The area boasts sites of international significance which are within walking distance.
