Hotel Fiammetta - The history
The Fiammetta hotel is located in an ancient building in the center of Quercianella , built at the end of the 19th century and originally known as Pensione Ferri, today the Ferri family is still the owner of the property. Inaugurated in 1911 (the more curious can read its history in the book <…dalla Costa Fiorita di Quercianella >)…. renamed after 1950 < Fiammetta >, so called in honor of Donna Fiammetta, Boccaccio 's beloved , the hotel still maintains the characteristics of the ancient building, you can see the laurel bundles symbol of the fascist era in the area below the windows of the rooms, on the side of via P. Nardini.
It is said that wealthy families from all over Tuscany came to the pension on vacation and that the area was frequented by artists from Livorno, such as musicians, actors and painters, the latter, as often happened at the time, often paid the daily fee with their works. It is said that numerous paintings by the Macchiaioli painters such as Fattori, Natali, Signorini, representing the seascapes, were made here.
History often repeats itself and currently in the rooms of the restaurant you can admire several works by one of the last living Macchiaioli painters " Aldo Mazzi ", in his paintings you can recognize corners of the Quercenello coast and seascapes of the port of Livorno , of the mouth of the Calambrone, rather than the Livorno hills. Today with the same love and simplicity of the time the Hotel Fiammetta is managed by Mrs. Giorgina (called Lori for friends) and her children, Stefano and Sandra.
